The Gatsby Charitable Foundation define meaningful encounters as “an encounter in which a student has an opportunity to learn about what work is like or what it takes to be successful in the workplace”.

Meaningful encounters

What are meaningful encounters?

Part of the Gatsby Benchmarks, a meaningful encounter is one in which the student has an opportunity to learn about what work is like or what it takes to be successful in the workplace.

Employers and schools work together to ensure students have a firm understanding of the world of work and are well prepared to begin their careers after leaving education. Meaningful encounters can be in-school or on-site, and range from careers talks and mentoring to Business Showcase Days.

Why should I offer meaningful encounters?

By offering meaningful encounters, you'll be helping to improve youth employability in Doncaster. The wide range of activities you can get involved in all serve to empower local students as well as build your talent pipeline and support your organisation's CSR efforts.

Benefits for students

Meaningful encounters with employers offer young people something new and different to what they can normally expect from careers information and guidance provision within a classroom.
